Lauren Sanderson is a singer, songwriter, and performer who has built her career on instinct, independence, and a refusal to be anything other than exactly herself. Originally from Fort Wayne, Indiana, and now based in Los Angeles, she first gained attention through a TED Talk that helped launch her career—an early sign of the clarity and conviction that would define everything that followed. From there, what began with tracks recorded in her bedroom and DIY releases quickly grew into a global audience, with over 100 million streams across her entire catalog and a reputation as an artist capable of uniting a fiercely loyal fanbase that sees itself reflected in her music.
From the very beginning, Sanderson’s work has been built on contradiction: vulnerable yet direct, playful yet incisive, intimate yet unifying. Her early releases established her as a unique figure among a new generation of artists who didn’t wait for permission to build their careers online, combining unfiltered lyrics with a tone that felt more like a late-night conversation than a perfectly polished pop product. This authenticity was evident in her debut album, “Midwest Kids Can Make It Big” (2020), a project that captured both the ambition and the vertigo of leaving her hometown to aim higher. The album earned her early support within the industry—including her first feature on Zane Lowe’s show on Apple Music—and helped establish her as an artist with a true vision and staying power.
Her next project, “Death of a Fantasy” (2022), marked a turning point. Whereas her first album was rooted in aspiration, this new era explored disillusionment, examining the gap between what success is supposed to bring and what it actually delivers. The project expanded her sonic palette, incorporating darker textures and sharper edges, while keeping her signature conversational songwriting front and center. During this period, Sanderson also established herself as a true live performer, headlining tours in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe, and sharing the stage with artists like FINNEAS, building a reputation for concerts that feel less like performances and more like moments of shared emotional release.
Today, with her new album “LAUREN” (released on May 29, 2026), Sanderson enters her most accomplished phase to date. More self-assured, stronger, and more aggressive sonically, she unleashes a maximalist blend of alt-pop, hip-hop, and nu-metal influences, straddling the line between chaos and control. While her previous projects raised questions, “LAUREN” answers them with conviction. The album’s world is one of rebellion elevated to an identity: raw, impulsive, slightly destructive, and entirely intentional. Tracks like “COME SAY SUM,” “SPELL IT OUT,” and “POSSESSIVE” embody this energy, pairing in-your-face choruses with a sense of freedom that’s both reckless and well-deserved.
At the heart of Sanderson’s evolution lies a deep understanding of her audience. Her fans—people who are exploring their identity, self-confidence, and ways of expressing themselves—don’t just listen to her music: they live it. Sanderson has always prioritized this connection, whether through direct communication platforms, intimate live performances, or content that blurs the line between the artist and the person. It’s not so much a branding strategy as it is a form of transparency, and it’s one of the main reasons her community continues to grow with her rather than around her.
As she embarks on this new chapter, Lauren Sanderson isn’t looking to follow trends or fit into a category. On the contrary, she seems to be moving even further away from them. “LAUREN” isn’t so much a reinvention as it is a refinement—a clearer, louder version of herself who’s less willing to compromise. It’s the sound of an artist who has already proven she can succeed, and who is now deciding exactly what “success” means on her own terms.
Lauren Sanderson will be performing her new album on February 22 at Backstage By The Mill (Paris)!
